Single, sick and sassy

Who is "Single, Sick, and Sassy"? She's your neighbor, she's you, she's anyone who may have been blessed with a life-altering diagnosis in what you, thought, should have been the prime of your life and, for all intents and purposes, she's me!

sissy and reba…my sweet girls

“I’m not crazy, i’ve just been in a very bad mood for 40 years…”

– Oiser Boudreaux, Steel Magnolias

My bestie (also from the South) and I often have the conversation about which branch of the Steel Magnolia tree to which we would gravitate. Well…I adore Truvy (who doesn’t love Dolly) but align more with Ouiser with a dash of Claree and Shelby while we all sit around sharing a piece of that bleeding armadillo cake. I secretly feel Aunt Fern was overlooked.

Did y’all know that Steel Magnolia’s was actually based on a true story. A man wanted to honor his sister’s memory. Not mine but definitely relatable.

We moved around alot when I was young but I claim the beautiful Savannah, GA as the answer to “where you from.” I was born in Decatur, GA (Atlanta to everyone else) but currently call Statesboro, GA (home of the Georgia Southern Eagles) the place I rest my head.

Statesboro was a good place to settle down because it was more affordable, I could finish my English degree (at 50 years old btw), substitute teach, and walk my dogs (much like Oiser and Rhett) in my housecoat if needed without too much judgement. Well, Sissy definitely judges me. She is my own personal Claree.

My two sons are both married to the most amazing young women. They are beautiful, inside and out, and graciously put up with their mother-in-law. If I could have picked them out personally for my boys, I would not have changed one hair on their heads.

Now on to me, I was married once upon a time ago. I am often asked, “don’t you want to get married again?” Of course I do! But you have to find someone else that wants to do the same. I have met some lovely men in my life but “none that stuck yet.” I truly believe God has your person picked out.

So what does this background story have to do with anything? My answer is…nothing really:) Just wanted to introduce myself a little better! Oh and here is me and the bestie!

Hugs from Statesboro on this rainy day!

Wendy
